Srinagar, Mar 26 (KNO): Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, mutton dealers in Kashmir on Tuesday voiced concerns over supply disruptions caused by prolonged halts of livestock trucks on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Mehraj Ud Din, General Secretary of the All Kashmir Wholesale Mutton Dealers Association, urged authorities, particularly the SP Traffic Highway, to ensure the smooth passage of livestock-laden trucks. He said the existing traffic restrictions and frequent stoppages could lead to mutton shortage in Kashmir during the festive season. “Livestock trucks are being held up for hours at various checkpoints, delaying supplies. With demand surging ahead of Eid, such disruptions could cause inconvenience to consumers,” Mehraj said. “Mutton holds cultural and culinary significance in Kashmir, especially during Eid. Any disruption in supply can trigger panic and price surges, impacting both consumers and traders,” he said, as per KNO. Mehraj urged authorities to establish dedicated corridors for livestock transportation to prevent unnecessary delays—(KNO)
